Renting a Robot vs Hiring a Full-Time Employee: Which is Cheaper?

Renting a Robot

In the modern ecosystem, renting a robot has become cheaper than recruiting a full-time employee

Robotic advancement has reduced human effort a lot. Industries are increasingly depending on robots to enhance their production capacity. Robotic Dogs are used for patrolling by the defence forces. They have found their way into our household to do daily chores like trimming grass and cleaning.
Using robots, we are enhancing our productivity and optimising the process of development. Tesla cars can drive themselves on the road, Drones monitor the border autonomously with very few inputs required and all this can be achieved with the help of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

What is a Robot?

Robots are basically machines that are capable of performing of complex series of repetitive actions, resembling human behaviour, automatically, through machine learning, the components of which are Computer programming and Artificial Intelligence. Robots have some predefined commands and responses based on the senses received from their environment. They work by simulation received from humans (such as Alexa and Siri), on their own (automated) without any supervision (self-driving cars, drones) and/or in certain specialized specific tasks where their actions and responses are very limited (industrial robots like doing the tasks of lifting, folding, closing etc.).

Rented robots as a popular choice

With the progress made in Technologies and Computer Programs, robots are no longer restricted to only the electronic or mechanical sectors, rather are becoming more demanding in these by all sectors, like that of business, hospitals etc. as installation of Robots are becoming easier and cheaper. Robots are most often rented instead of purchasing to do these tasks augment the workforce as a whole.

Why Rent a robot?

Being higher in cost, robots become an unattainable means by the small business firms and start-up companies. That’s where renting or leasing out a robot from companies such as Polar Manufacturing in Chicago and Formic. A rented robot also earns wages for its labour per hour, however, the equivalent cost of human labour to that of a rented robot is nearly half the cost of hiring a full-time human employee. This cost-effective nature of rented robots is making them a wiser choice thus.

Due to the pandemic leading to a shortage of efficient workers, anything that covers up the vacancy is very much beneficial for the optimisation and productivity of the companies and industries. The automation of the robot as an employee is slowly encroaching even in small business firms. With the ease offered due to Automation in addition to other cost-effective characteristics, the demand for a full-time employee is diminishing day by day. Advancement in AI and automation is thus adversely jeopardizing the job of a human labour/employee.

Benefits of renting a robot:

Some of the major advantages of renting a robot over a full-time, employed workforce are:

Cost-effective– although involves high cost at the beginning, a robot can be more cost-effective than a full-time employee. Due to its huge demand and lack of adequate human workers, many industries are adopting more automation workforce but some small business firms still cannot afford them and hence take the robots on lease or rent them at nearly half the cost of human labour.

Polar Manufacturing in Chicago leased one such robot, to lift pieces of metal onto a press. The cost of which is $8 an hour, whereas it is $15 an hour for a human worker, according to a recent article on Wired. Many companies are even replacing human labour with automation, which reduces the costs incurred due to the salary of the employees.

Robots can work 24*7: humans have a limit to their labour. It is impossible for a human to work day and night continuously without any break as fatigue, exhaustion and hunger set it. The good thing about robots is that they can offer full-time work without any such complaints of fatigue or hunger. This way the working hours and productivity are increased and the cost for paying overtime is reduced significantly.

Improved optimization: as the robots do not easily wear out, their work has the same amount of persistence and efficiency overall, leading to optimum utilisation of the resources without much depreciation cost involved, as the robots are rented.

Increase in workforce efficiency: due to the substitution of the full-time human employee with the rented robots, the workers can put their efforts into much more difficult arenas free from the repetitive assembly line tasks. This, on one hand, reduces the hiring cost of more employees and on the other hand, the human workers are put to creative and constructive works which in turn increases the overall productivity of the industries. As a result, the workforce is augmented with the increase in their efficiency as well as profit.

Automation used to augment the workforce is seemingly rising and will continue to do for a long time in the coming decades. Renting robots will be economical for the companies as well as the economy as a whole. However, this may not come as an advantage but rather a boon for the human workers as they may and start losing their jobs and the rate of unemployment of an economy, therefore, may increase.

Warehouse Robotics is Changing the Face of Logistics for Good

Warehouse robotics

Warehouse robotics are fastened the logistics process in the industry & playing a vital role in supply chain

Warehouse robotics refers to automated systems, these are the specialized software robots to transport materials, perform various tasks in the warehouse industry process. At present worldwide robotics has gained eminence in the supply chain, distribution system, and warehouse management plays a significant role.

According to ABI Research, over 4 million commercial robots will be installed in more than 50,000 warehouses by 2025. With technological advancements and an increasingly competitive business landscape, warehouses focus on to use of robotics. With their ability to increase productivity, accuracy, and operational efficiency. Robots deliver significant value to warehouse operations. They help mitigate and eliminate errors, speed up order fulfillment.

Here mentioned some types of robots:
  • Automated guided vehicles(AGV) help to transport materials, goods, supplies, within warehouse facilities. AGVs are used in operations to replace manually-driven forklifts or pick carts.
  • Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) is a group of computer-controlled systems that help automate inventory management and store goods on demand. These systems are designed to facilitate speedy retrieval and placement of products
  • Collaborative robots are semi-autonomous mobile robots. these are designed to help human workers in the warehouse environment perform diverse tasks. and some robots follow human pickers around the warehouse floor and act as mobile storage bins for picked orders. These come with sensors that enable them to distinguish between obstacles and boxes. They can also help speed up order fulfillment by delivering picked orders to workers in other locations in the warehouse such as sorting or packing stations.
  • Articulated robotic arms(ARA), which refers to follow robots, are multi-jointed limbs used to manipulate products within distribution centers and warehouses. Since these arms can move, turn, lift and for Packing, Receiving, storage. Etc
  • Goods-to-person(G2P) technology is like AS/RS system. G2P is an automated storage system to deliver items to stationary pick stations where human operators fulfill orders. While G2P systems have the potential to deliver the highest returns on investment.
Improvement of robotics technology in the warehouse:

Robotics play a vital role in warehouses and they address common challenges in supply chain management, like improving order fulfillment and better-managing inventory while staying ahead of the competition. they do require significant infrastructure changes which contribute to high capital investments and downtime during implementation. Warehouse robotics helps cut down on the time and resources spent on retrieving and transporting items around the warehouse floor, allowing human workers to concentrate on more complicated processes like packing and shipping orders

  • warehouse robotics results in increased productivity and accuracy in inventory management. Human errors can be reduced. Warehouse robotics automates the handling, picking, sorting, and replenishment of products.
  • Picking is common in warehouse operations. A large part of order fulfillment and replenishment involves moving around products to bring out order items or deposit products in storage bins. Order picking robots reduce order processing times and associated costs by reducing travel time through the warehouse.
  • Although sorting is straightforward for humans, it’s a complex operation to automate. Warehouse sorting robots typically have conveyors, arms, cameras, sensors, and algorithms that enable them to correctly identify items and send them to the right storage area
  • Warehouse robotics include an automated system for bagging machines that help speed up packaging operations.
  • Robotic transportation systems such as monorails, conveyor systems, and AGVs help to transport pallets and goods from one location to another, thus reducing the burden on human
  • The reduced physical and mental strain on human workers’ dangerous aspects of warehouse operations. Reduced strain on workers also leads to an increase in morale, which boosts productivity and creates a better work environment.
  • Warehouses can increase operational efficiency, lower error rates, and execute order fulfillment operations with more accuracy by deploying the right robots. so that human workers can focus their time and energy on handling complicated tasks that require fine motor skills or critical thinking.

The Future of Industrial Robotics Market

Robotics

Industrial Robotics Market from US$45 billion in 2020 to US$119 billion by 2030

The robotics market offers a diverse and ever-expanding selection of items. After many years of partnership with both eastern and western consumers, predictions about the future progress of automation and the robotics industry are plausible. The growing need to automate more and more online food operations has increased the employment of robotic technology in these domains.

Effect of Covid 19 on Robotics Market

The covid-19 effect is expected to increase the scale of the Industrial Robotics Market from US$45 billion in 2020 to US$119 billion by 2030. Over the projected period of 2020 to 2030, it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15%. The 2025 forecast is predicted to be roughly 3% lower than the pre-COVID-19 prediction. The key driving drivers for the business are a lack of qualified labour and government and public-private partnerships presenting suggestions to mitigate the negative consequences of COVID-19.

While the COVID-19 epidemic dampens market development until the second and third quarters of 2020, the market is likely to rise from 2021 onwards as firms in the industrial robotics industry clear their bottlenecks and resume accepting new orders. In the year 2019, KUKA’s business segment Robotics (Germany) had order bottlenecks totaling US$309 million (EUR 276 million).

Collaborative robots are becoming increasingly popular

Collaborative robots enable humans and robots to work effectively together in open or uncaged environments. It is feasible to include a human operator and a bot in the same operation by using collaborative robotics. The standards for the design of robotic systems are described in ISO 10218 and ISO / TS 15066 technical specs. Collaborative robots are designed to be safe, with no possibility of damage or interruption. The lack of cages reduces the amount of room required to deploy the robots. Collaborative robots have grown more approachable and manageable for unskilled users.

High deployment costs for small and medium-sized businesses

A robot automation program can be intimidating, especially for firms that have never used one before. High capital expenditures are required not only for robot purchase, but also for setup, programming, and maintenance. In some circumstances, a specialised implementation may be necessary, increasing the overall cost. Companies may not always have the necessary services and capability to deploy robots. Because small and medium-sized businesses often produce in small quantities, return on investment (ROI) may be an issue. The presence of businesses with seasonal or variable production schedules exacerbates the problem. Rapidly changing customer tastes would necessitate regular retraining of robots, as goods must be changed on a yearly basis. Cost overruns occur as product lines and market potential change substantially over time, rendering many units redundant or obsolete. Over-automation can also be problematic.

Increasing automation in the electronics industry

For some years, the automobile industry has been the main buyer of robots for manufacturing tasks. The balance of power is rapidly shifting. According to estimations, the growth of the electronic industrial robotics industry has surpassed that of the automotive industry. Despite expanding profit margins, robot automation is expected to be a successful notion for the electronics industry in the next years. Customization is becoming the norm in this industry.

Robot Teachers in India: Unleashing the Untold Stories

Robot teachers

Can Robot teachers replace human teachers in the Education system and how will it work in India?

We have seen robots serve food in cafeterias and restaurants, but now we can encounter robots in education institutions like robot teachers. The robot teachers are used as assistants for the teachers. They can help to improve teaching and make it more interesting to the students.

The robot teachers are programmed for their jobs and they will always obey. They can teach anywhere without getting stressed, tired, and moving somewhere for a higher-paid job. They can teach children technological skills. The robot teachers are mainly used as classroom assistants in elementary schools. The robot teachers are better than humans and they will introduce new methods of teaching every now and then.

Eagle 2.0, the 1st Humanoid Robot teacher in India

Robot teachers have been introduced in Bengaluru’s Indus International School. The Artificial Intelligence-enabled robots will assist teachers in the classroom and also clear the doubts of students. The idea behind Eagle 2.0 is to help teachers and to do something for children rather than deliver the same content straight from the textbooks.

The AI-enabled Eagle 2.0, humanoid robots —dressed in formal female attire—teach lessons in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History, and Physics to Classes 7-9. It is capable of taking queries from students, asking them questions, and reacting to the answers she receives. With AI in play, the robots can respond to questions and doubts of our wards after a lesson is taught. Disruptive technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are making their way into classrooms as humanoid robots to teach students and interact with them.

Pros and Cons of Robot Teachers

A study says due to the lack of teachers in some places 9 to 16% of children under age 14 do not go to school. with the help of a robot teacher, which can be deployed anywhere we have a solution for the lack of sufficient teachers. But in India, Many schools don’t have enough money to afford robots and to implement AI technology. The robots need electricity, internet, and electricity, the internet costs a lot.

On average, a teacher is spending a time of 11 hours a week checking homework, etc, with the help robot, we can cut the time of other activities and let human teachers do what they are best at, like monitoring the students, etc, but just for monitoring, encouraging the student’s strength & interest in the subject to consider a certain career path, we use human teachers lot of teaching staff will lose their jobs.

In India mostly at the pre-schooling level, we are using robot teachers, but at that age, only children should know about feelings, emotions, behavior, etc. The robot teachers do not have feelings, They are not able to help you to get over things and help you feel better but the human teachers can and the robot wouldn’t know what to do.

The robots will only be used to teach certain skills such as acquiring a foreign or new language. But can not develop creative or innovative ideas for teaching the material in a new way. While technology can be a great tool for promoting interactive learning and providing information beyond the scope of the teacher’s knowledge base.

Romantic Robots: Can Humans & Robots Love Each Other?

robots

The future of Romantic Robots will evolve around robot sex and AI relationships with humans

In a modern world where we interact more online than offline, it is not absurd to imagine a future where Artificial intelligence and Robot technology for love, romance, intimacy chapters. Nowadays, young people are even more likely to have sex and engage in online forms of sex than establish in-person kinds of intimacy. A humanoid robot can serve as a creature towards whom our romantic feelings could be directed.

As robotics technology and autonomous systems flourish, human-robot relationships are increased. They’re how we interact and control the technology, from self-driving cars to sex robots. Technology is experimenting with robot lovers to simulate feelings and evoke strong sexual and emotional reactions in humans. But, are we capable of falling in love with a non-thinking machine.

Can we fall in love with a Robot? Like sci-fi movies

It’s a topic that has been explored widely in movies like Her and Ex Machina – both Oscar-nominated and ROBO, Blade Runner 2049, Black Mirror and Westworld ARE revolve around protagonists developing deep, romantic feelings for some form of artificial intelligence.

All of these movies, made for entertainment purposes, depicting the eccentric world of future AI-robot romance and love, fit the science fiction box perfectly. These film realities don’t seem so far-fetched particularly since the evolution of technology in the field. We’re witnessing a revolution growing at a staggering rate in the robotics industry towards the creation of artificial substitutes of love and sex.

Some studies about Robosexual

Love and Sex with Robots: written by David Levy, argues in this book that Loves with robots will be as normal as love with other humans. he also writes that machines and artificial intelligence will be the answer to people’s problems of intimacy.

Close Engagements with Artificial Companions: Key Social, Psychological, Ethical and Design Issues: is written by Yorick Wilks, suggests that there are a lot of complex problems technology companies will have to solve to manufacture a love robot. “The machine must be able to detect the signals of its users related to emotions, synthesize emotional reactions and signals of its own, and be able to plan and carry out emotional reasoning.”

Robots, Love, and Sex: The Ethics of Building a Love Machine: written by John P. Sullins suggest that we seem to be a long way from the sensitive and caring robotic lover imagined by proponents of this technology. Love is more than behavior. It is important to design robots so they act in predictably human ways but this should not be used to fool people into ascribing more feelings to the machine than they should. Love is a powerful emotion and we are easily manipulated by it.

Robot Sex: Social and Ethical Implications: written by Neil McArthur here Robotic partners could help to redress these imbalances by providing third-party outlets that are less destructive of the human-to-human relationship because they might be less likely to be perceived as rivals. Like a robot could revitalize the sexual and love needs and demands of existing couples.

In addition, a study by Stanford University suggests that people may experience feelings of intimacy towards technology because our brains aren’t necessarily hardwired for life in the 21st century. Therefore, perhaps, the speed at which relationships with robots might become a reality.

Sexbot: it was created by Matt McMullen. The Sexbot can think and learn what its owner wants. It is a substitute partner. its purpose is, to create an illusion or alternative to reality. These RealDolls will have the ability to listen, remember and talk naturally, like a living person

All these substitute technological ventures aimed to engage us in compelling, effective, and sexual relations. Technology has the incredible capability of not only changing our habits and the way we live and communicate to the world but also has its negative dark side. Yet, it raises a lot of questions of what these new ways of experiencing love would take away from our humanity and how these interactions will affect genuine sex and love and take over our perceptions and emotions in the long run.

AI relationships and robot romance might be the only chance they could have to find a profound bond or a way to satisfy their sexual needs to the elderly, the socially challenged people. Robots also might be a great asset to our society and contribute to the service of human companionship and care. Love is probably one of the strongest human emotions we get to experience but it is different for everyone too, and it has a wide range of motivations and meanings besides sexual intimacy. Forming romantic and sexual relationships with robots will be widespread by 2050.
