Learn in-depth if ChatGPT-like AI will take over Google and Apple in this article

In a rush to stake out the territory in the nascent market in generative AI systems, Google and Apple might be taken over by ChatGPT-like AI.

Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Microsoft Corp. are among companies rushing to carve out space in the emerging industry for generative AI – systems that create material that matches what a person could make. So far, it appears that their focus is on search, which discovers and distributes information. However, those companies, as well as Apple Inc., must hunt for substitutes for the more critical platforms on which most of their operations are constructed.

The symbols on the screen are only the visible tip of the iceberg: Microsoft’s early operating systems were simply text-based versions with the hard work happening behind the scenes. Today, both Windows and Apple’s iOS provide common frameworks for communicating with respective platforms, making it easier for third-party developers to create apps. They also do a lot more, such as controlling battery levels and switching between programs, as well as securely saving passwords.

Apple and Google have packed so much functionality directly into iOS and Android that it’s often difficult to tell where the OS ends and an app begins. For decades, the border has been muddled. In the 1990s, Microsoft contended in response to antitrust claims that its Internet Explorer browser was not a distinct product but rather a part of its Windows operating system.

Most importantly, these platforms are incompatible. Except in exceptional cases, software designed for one operating system cannot operate on another. As a result, developers must either choose one or produce numerous versions of their goods for each. This boosts expenses for software developers while creating a walled garden for OS vendors, who may collect license fees, set conditions of usage, and maintain control over how their products are distributed.

A quarter-century later, advancements in AI systems such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 provide a slew of underlying technologies. Chatbot ChatGPT, as well as image creation DALL-E and voice-to-text transcription application Whisper, are two examples. Each has an underlying AI model in this example, neural networks that the consumer-facing applications feed into.

Integrate AI’s model into existing services or create new ones on top of it. Duolingo, for example, utilizes it to provide students with role-playing scenarios. Morgan Stanley uses it to collect investment information, which is subsequently outputted via a chatbot.
