OpenAI’s ChatGPT gets paid subscription plans for its AI chatbot for US$20 and add-on features
After receiving a record number of users in a short period, the San Francisco-based technology start-up OpenAI has launched a premium membership with extra capabilities. The US$20 monthly membership level offers more features and full access to the site, especially during times of high user traffic. The benefits include unrestricted access to ChatGPT even during busy hours as well as priority access to new features and upgrades.
The firm announced in a statement that “ChatGPT Plus is now accessible to clients in the United States, and we will start the process of admitting people off our waitlist in the coming weeks.”
The company has made suggestions that subscription-based services will soon be introduced elsewhere in the world. “Soon, we hope to provide access and assistance to other nations and areas. We will be able to support free access available to as many individuals as feasible by providing this membership rate, “said OpenAI.
The general public was able to use ChatGPT as of late last year. Since then, “millions of people have offered us feedback, we’ve made several significant updates, and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use cases, including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, getting help with programming, and learning new topics,” the company claimed.
The firm also intends to introduce the ChatGPT API waitlist. The corporation also stated in the statement, “We are currently looking into solutions for more affordable plans, business programs, and data packs.
The firm recently unveiled a new tool that allows users to discern between articles authored by people and those created by artificial intelligence.
Microsoft, a US-based technology company, also announced that it will work with Open AI and spend a substantial amount of money on the project in connection with this.
Microsoft has announced that it will spend US$10 billion on OpenAI’s ChatGPT and has ambitions to include it in its productivity software.
Even the sleeping giant Google has been shaken out of its comfort zone by the advent of ChatGPT, and it is now working extra hard to develop a superior AI chatbot that can be integrated into its search engine and other services.
It should be highlighted that Transformer, a neural network architecture created by Google Research and released as open-source software in 2017, powers ChatGPT.
The Google chatbot LaMDA, driven by artificial intelligence (AI), was demonstrated in 2021 using the same Transformer code. However, the business did not provide public access since it needed to be strengthened to make it more factual. This is a problem with ChatGPT as well, although it is improved.
Currently, Google is working nonstop to introduce more than 20 comparable AI bots and exhibit them at the forthcoming I/O 2023 in May
OpenAI Co-founder and CEO Sam Altman gave a hint about the release of a commercial edition in December, and it is already accessible. According to Altman, ChatGPT’s running costs are “eye-watering,” costing a few cents for each chat overall.
What are the company’s ambitions for the future?
Based on customer input and demands, the firm has announced intentions to improve and extend this product. The ChatGPT API queue will soon be launched, and OpenAI said, “We are currently looking at possibilities for lower-cost plans, commercial plans, and data packs for broader availability.”
