Lenovo unveiled its new ThinkPad T14s Gen 6, powered by AMD, at the Lenovo Tech Day event in Bengaluru, on Monday. The AI PC is the company’s first x86 ThinkPad featuring next-generation AI capabilities.
Powered by the AMD Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360 processor, the device delivers 50 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) of AI processing power, enabling advanced data analysis, real-time machine learning, and enhanced productivity for the modern workforce, the company said in its release.
According to a Gartner report, AI PC shipments are projected to reach 114 million units in 2025, a threefold increase from 2024.
The demand for AI laptops is going to surge and is said to be more than for AI desktops. In a couple of years, AI laptops will be the most sought-after choice of laptops for large enterprises. The new Lenovo AI PC is built to address their goal of ‘AI for Enterprise.’
Revolutionary 50 TOPS
Matej Misturik, senior product manager of global accounts at Lenovo, said this specific device has 50 TOPS and is among the first next-gen AI PCs.
“Earlier we were hovering around the 15-16 top kind of thing. So this one really raises the bar to 1.5x,” Vinay Sinha, MD of India sales at AMD, told AIM.
Sinha believes that the new AI PC, being the first to market with 50 TOPS, provides significant processing power. It improves the responsiveness of AI applications while ensuring significant power savings.
Interestingly, at a recent fireside chat in IISc, Bengaluru, AMD chief Lisa Su said that everyone should have their own AI PCs, allowing one to run their model locally and operate on their data locally. In July, HP unveiled their AI PC that has 55 TOPS and runs on AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors.
