GenAI Startup InsurStaq.ai Shuts Down After a Year of Operations

$2 Bn Design Startup InVision Shuts Down Amidst Industry Rivalry

In an unfortunate turn of events, Mayan Kansal, founder of InsurStaq.ai, recently announced that he is closing down the company through a linkedin post, citing key challenges as the reason for this closure. InsurStaq.ai built GenAI applications for the insurance world.

“We set out to revolutionize GenAI applications for the insurance world and, along the way, built cutting-edge products, achieved enterprise-ready compliance and were recognized as one of the hottest AI startups by media houses and VCs alike,” said the founder in a linkedin post.

Founded in 2022, by Shivam Kaushik and Mayan Kansal, former engineers, the AI startup built InsurGPT, a specialised Large Language Model (LLM) for the insurance industry. Last year, it received investment from Faad Network , an early stage fund, part of Faad Accelarator Labs’ ‘FinShastra’ .

“But the true highlight of our journey? The relationships we forged with great mentors, advisors, and stakeholders who guided us. We built an amazing team of four—operating more like a high-performing sports team—driven by a shared vision, relentless ambition, and an incredible work culture,” Mayan added.

Neeva will shut down June 2. The ad-free search engine launched less than two years ago. Neeva’s failure was due to its inability to attract enough users, the rise of generative AI and LLMs and the current economic environment, according to the company’s founders, Sridhar Ramaswamy and Vivek Raghunathan.

Startup closures are not uncommon. Some of them this year include India’s microblogging app Koo, a SaaS-based AI startup Ninety, and edtech startup Bluelearn, along with several others that had grown post covid. Reasons for closure include lack of funding, inability to scale, and growing cost of technology, among others.
Last year, AI search engine platform, Neeva also got shut down, but was later acquired by Snowflake. Similarly, even in this case, experts believe that owing to the large compute requirements and the need for access to a huge customer base – upcoming AI startups may flourish under the umbrella of an existing thriving company.
