Turing College, a Y Combinator (YC) edtech startup, received €2.5 million in funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) earlier this week. The startup intends to use the funds to bridge the tech talent gap and democratise access to high-quality education.
Turing College believes that AI brings vast potential to the field of education and is ready to lead this discovery. In the months to come, the company plans to invest in solutions that make education more accessible, effective, and personally meaningful.
“We’re building AI solutions that amplify human expertise rather than replace it, giving our mentors and learners the tools they need to stay ahead,” the company said in its official blog.
AI in Education’s New Era
After the launch of ChatGPT, every industry has been exploring the technology to advance in their respective domains. Generative AI has become a saviour for edtech firms by enabling hyper-personalised learning experiences and enhanced learning facilities for students.
Soon after the launch of ChatGPT, several universities and colleges around the world immediately banned it thinking it may hinder the competitiveness in the tech era. Conversely, Turing College believes that AI tools can drive students’ learning practices.
They plan to use the grant to address “one of the biggest challenges in online education: providing a tailored learning experience that keeps students engaged and motivated throughout their journey.”
Modern Study: Much Beyond Textbooks
Turing College claims to create a learning experience that truly gets each user. It tracks the student’s strengths and challenges, recognises the topics they’re confident in, and gently points out areas for growth—all without adding extra pressure.
They also aim to create a system that personalises learning paths in real-time using AI technologies like large language models (LLMs). “Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, every learner will have a path uniquely suited to their needs.”
As reported by AIM, Stanford researchers have also developed an AI system, “Tutor CoPilot,” using OpenAI’s GPT-4. Integrating it with FEV Tutor, they aim to create a platform that virtually connects students with tutors.
This human-AI partnership is designed to give tutors ‘expert-like’ support, boosting their teaching with insights that reflect an expert’s approach.
Reimagining Education into a Career
The company states that with this funding, they will look not just into education but also into advancement into job opportunities. Many qualified candidates go unnoticed due to mismatched hiring processes, making it difficult to find a job that aligns with one’s skills.
Turing College aims to create an AI-driven platform that makes the hiring process more efficient for everyone involved. Candidates can showcase their skills in ways that matter, while employers gain a clearer view of the talent that best fits their needs.
