To address the Indic AI challenge, Pani explained that his team has been building an ‘AI rocket’. “We started in an era when there was absolutely zero Indian language data in the digital media,” he recalled, highlighting the progress made from their first speech model that used only 100 hours of data to more recent models that utilise at least 10,000 hours.
“In India, less than 7% of people are fluent in English,” Pani explained, emphasising a need for building an AI model in Indian languages and not just relying on the models of the West.
