Swiss Chip Startup Corintis Raises $24M Post Microsoft Deal

Switzerland-based Corintis, a semiconductor startup specialising in advanced chip cooling solutions, has secured $24 million in a Series A funding round. The funds will help the company scale its microfluidic cooling technology, which is already being tested by Microsoft in its latest cooling system, which the company claims is 3 times better than others.

The new investment, led by BlueYard Capital, will support Corintis’ expansion as it looks to address the thermal limitations of increasingly powerful chips. With AI technology demanding more energy and producing more heat, effective cooling solutions have become critical.

With this, the startup has added Lip-Bu Tan, the CEO of Intel, to its board. The startup claims that its technology can improve cooling efficiency by up to 10 times compared to traditional methods, a breakthrough that could enable the next generation of AI chips.

Expansion and Future Growth

With the new funding, Corintis plans to expand its workforce from 55 to 70 employees by the end of the year and ramp up its production capacity. The company aims to manufacture over a million microfluidic cold plates annually by 2026, with the potential to scale further as demand for advanced AI chips grows.

Remco van Erp, co-founder and CEO of Corintis, explained that every chip is unique, like a cityscape of billions of transistors. Current cooling designs are too simplistic, relying on generic methods like copper blocks with parallel fins.

Corintis’ solution uses precisely shaped micro-scale channels tailored to each chip, directing coolant to the most critical regions. This approach addresses the challenge of developing more efficient cooling systems within tight deadlines.

With its innovative platforms such as Glacierware and Therminator, Corintis enables chip designers to optimise thermal performance. The company’s technology is poised to play a pivotal role in AI’s growing demand for computational power.

Corintis has already shipped over 10,000 cooling systems and secured eight-digit revenue since its founding in 2022. The company expects to significantly increase its revenue through early deployments with its technology customers.

“Cooling is one of the biggest challenges for next-generation chips,” said Tan, “Corintis is fast becoming the industry leader in advanced semiconductor cooling solutions to address the thermal bottleneck.”
