Oracle Announces General Availability of HeatWave GenAI, an in-database LLM and Database Vector Store

Oracle has introduced HeatWave GenAI, the industry’s first in-database LLMs and an automated in-database vector store. This innovation allows enterprise customers to use generative AI capabilities directly within their Oracle databases, eliminating the need for AI expertise, data migration, or additional costs.

HeatWave GenAI is said to outpace competitors such as Snowflake, Google BigQuery, and Databricks by significant margins. Its key features include the ability to create in-database vector stores and execute natural language searches using built-in or external LLMs—all within a single SQL command.

“HeatWave GenAI is set to revolutionise how Indian enterprises manage and analyse their rapidly growing data. By combining the power of generative AI with real-time analytics and transaction processing within a single MySQL database service, HeatWave GenAI enables organisations to extract valuable insights more efficiently and at no additional cost,” said P Saravanan, vice president of Cloud Engineering at Oracle India.

By leveraging Oracle’s robust infrastructure and scale-out capabilities, developers can achieve rapid insights without GPU provisioning, thereby reducing application complexity and optimising performance.

“Today’s integrated and automated AI enhancements allow developers to build rich generative AI applications faster, without requiring AI expertise or moving data. Users now have an intuitive way to interact with their enterprise data and rapidly get the accurate answers they need for their businesses,” said Edward Screven, Chief Corporate Architect at Oracle.

HeatWave GenAI is now available in all Oracle Cloud regions, including OCI Dedicated Region and multi-cloud environments, without additional costs for existing HeatWave customers. This comprehensive offering solidifies Oracle’s position as a leader in cloud-based AI and database solutions, promising enhanced scalability, performance, and accessibility for businesses embracing digital transformation.

The GenAI- Cloud Rush

Recently, Oracle joined the Open Cloud Compute project and partnered with People + AI and its partners to accelerate the compute ecosystem in India.

With HeatWave GenAI, Oracle aims to advance cloud database technologies, enabling enterprises to process and analyse data more efficiently across diverse environments.

“HeatWave GenAI makes it extremely easy to take advantage of generative AI. The support for in-database LLMs and in-database vector creation leads to a significant reduction in application complexity, predictable inference latency, and most of all, no additional cost to us to use the LLMs or create the embeddings,” said Vijay Sundhar, CEO, SmarterD.
