West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to inaugurate Infosys’ new campus in Kolkata’s New Town on Wednesday. The IT giant, which began operations at the 17.5-acre facility earlier this year, plans to gradually scale up its activities at the site.
According to a government source, Infosys started its operations in New Town earlier this year on 17.5-acre of its new campus. “The company will gradually expand its operations in the new campus. The Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the new campus.”
Infosys owns a total of 50 acres of land in New Town and has been actively hiring for the facility. According to sources, the company has already onboarded 2,000 employees and aims to double this figure to 4,000 soon.
Senior Infosys officials are expected to attend the inauguration. The new software development center in Kolkata aligns with Infosys’ localisation strategy, which focuses on establishing facilities closer to talent pools across India. This approach allows employees to work in their home cities, reducing the need for relocation and offering greater flexibility.
The development highlights Infosys’ commitment to expanding its presence in West Bengal and leveraging the state’s growing IT talent base.
In other news, Infosys has also partnered with Google Cloud to set up its centre of excellence for AI innovation at its Bengaluru campus. The company has enabled 60,000 employees on Google Cloud.
