Madhya Pradesh Releases Draft SpaceTech Policy 2025 for Public Consultation

The Madhya Pradesh government has released the draft SpaceTech Policy 2025 for public consultation, inviting citizens, industry leaders, startups and academia to share their suggestions. The policy aims to position the state as India’s next hub for space technology.

The draft outlines plans to boost innovation, create jobs and expand the use of space-based solutions in areas like agriculture, water management, disaster relief and urban planning. It also includes steps to support satellite and rocket manufacturing, launch services, ground stations and data-driven applications.

To encourage innovation, the state has proposed a ₹200 crore spacetech venture fund, incubation programmes and grants for research and startups.

A centre of excellence for spacetech is planned in collaboration with academia and industry, along with a new R&D centre in Ujjain to revive the city’s astronomical heritage.

Infrastructure projects such as space manufacturing parks, testing facilities and clean rooms are also part of the roadmap. For students, the policy proposes initiatives like the Mission Kalpana engagement programme, participation in ISRO’s YUVIKA scheme and the creation of Antariksh Vihar, a world-class space exploration park.

“The spacetech sector is no longer just about satellites and rockets; it is about transforming agriculture, disaster management, urban planning, and industry with space-based solutions,” said Sanjay Dubey, additional chief secretary of the state science and technology department.

The draft policy builds on Madhya Pradesh’s existing strengths, such as the defence corridor in Jabalpur, precision engineering hubs in Pithampur and top institutions, including IIT Indore, IISER Bhopal and RRCAT Indore. Notably, IIT Indore is the only institute in the state offering a four-year undergraduate degree in space science and engineering.

Earlier this year, the state government held consultations with experts from ISRO, DRDO, Bharat Electronics, SIA-India, and leading academic institutions in Indore and Bengaluru.

The draft policy is now available online and the government has called on all stakeholders to send in their feedback.
