Kochi-Based Robotics Startup EyeROV Signs ₹47 Cr Deal with Indian Navy

Indian marine robotics startup EyeROV, based out of Kochi, has secured a ₹47 crore contract with the Indian Navy to supply advanced Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs). The agreement will enhance naval underwater capabilities utilising indigenously developed technology.

The Kochi-based company will deliver its field-tested UWROVs, designed for deep-sea missions and challenging marine conditions as deep as over 400 m. EyeROV’s systems have been deployed in environments ranging from the cold Antarctic Sea to underwater volcanic studies.

Co-founder and CTO Kannappa Palaniappan P said, “For eight years, EyeROV has engineered underwater systems tested in the harshest conditions. This partnership with the Navy is proof that Indian innovation can set benchmarks globally in defence deep-tech.”

EyeROV’s TROUT model, a 300-metre depth-rated remotely operated vehicle, will be part of the Navy’s arsenal. The system supports missions such as underwater surveillance and reconnaissance.

The company highlighted its focus on indigenous development, reinforcing India’s push towards defence self-reliance. Johns T. Mathai, co-founder and CEO of EyeROV, added, “We sincerely thank the iDEX and Navy teams for their support in fostering advanced indigenous solutions. Our vision has always been to serve the nation by delivering technologies that are at par with global standards.”

Founded in 2017, EyeROV has completed over 100 deployments across India, West Asia, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Its customers include the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Coast Guard, CSIR and NCPOR.

The company’s product line features the EyeROV TUNA and TROUT vehicles, as well as the iBoat Alpha surface vessel. It has been recognised among India’s top five defence technology startups and received the National Startup Award in 2022.

Through its successful tests, the startup aims to prove that it provides the Navy with systems designed for real-world challenges, where precision, safety, and reliability are of foremost importance.
