Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sought the support of Wipro founder chairman Azim Premji to ease traffic congestion on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor, especially at the Iblur junction during peak hours.
In a letter dated September 19, 2025, Siddaramaiah praised Wipro’s role in Karnataka’s IT sector and its broader socio-economic impact. He said traffic density at Iblur causes long delays and reduces the quality of life for commuters and residents.
The Chief Minister proposed limited vehicular access through the Wipro campus, with consent and strict security measures. Mobility experts believe this could cut congestion along the stretch by nearly 30% during peak hours, according to preliminary assessments cited in the letter.
Siddaramaiah urged Premji and his team to work with state officials on a practical solution. “Your support will go a long way in easing bottlenecks, enhancing commuter experience, and contributing to a more efficient and livable Bengaluru,” he wrote.
The Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) has earlier flagged heavy losses due to gridlock. It stated that IT firms lost more than $28 million (Rs 225 crore) on August 30, 2022, when employees were stuck in traffic for over five hours.
ORRCA, which represents IT and banking firms along the ORR, estimates that more than half a million professionals work between Central Silk Board and KR Puram, with one million employed across the 17 km corridor, including support services.
