Infosys has secured a landmark £1.2-billion (₹14,000 crore) contract from the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to design and implement the Future NHS Workforce Solution, an AI-powered workforce management system that will replace the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) platform.
The deal comes nearly two years after Infosys secured a $1.64-billion contract from Liberty Global.
The 15-year engagement will serve 1.9 million NHS employees across England and Wales, processing over £55 billion in annual payroll, according to an official release.
The new platform is aimed at modernising how the NHS manages its workforce, spanning recruitment, onboarding, payroll, career development, and retirement.
According to the announcement, Infosys was chosen after a rigorous procurement process, recognised for its proven expertise in large-scale digital transformation, user-centric design, and operational excellence. The initiative aligns with the NHS 10-Year Health Plan, which aims to build a future-ready workforce through digital innovation and efficiency.
Infosys CEO and MD Salil Parekh said, “The NHS is a cornerstone of life in the UK providing vital services that touch the lives of millions every day. We are honored to be chosen by the NHSBSA to deliver generational change for employees of the NHS in England and Wales through the Future Workforce Solution.”
Powered by advanced analytics and AI capabilities, the new system will provide a unified, flexible, and intuitive experience for healthcare staff, enabling data-driven decision-making and streamlined workforce planning. It will also integrate seamlessly with other NHS systems to improve user experience and operational efficiency.
Michael Brodie, chief executive of NHSBSA, said the project would “go far beyond simply replacing ESR,” describing it as “a strategic enabler for building a workforce that is fit for the future.”
He added that with Infosys’s extensive experience in delivering digital transformation and organisational change for global entities, combined with elements of our AI offering – Infosys Topaz, the company will deliver a platform that not only drives efficiency today but empowers the NHS to elevate its invaluable work into the future.
