Atlassian Expands India Presence with New R&D Centre in Bengaluru

Atlassian, a global leader in team collaboration and productivity software, has unveiled a new R&D centre in Bengaluru, marking a significant expansion of its operations in India. Spanning over two lakh square feet, the facility is four times the size of its previous office in the city and is designed to accommodate at least 1,000 employees across two levels.

Since establishing a presence in India in 2018 with just 60 employees, Atlassian has grown its workforce to over 2,500, making it the company’s largest base outside Australia and the US. Nearly 75% of Atlassian’s India team are in R&D roles, contributing to key product areas such as enterprise search, commerce, data residency and customer success.

“This new world-class R&D centre is more than just a larger space; it’s a symbol of our investment in the future of work, in distributed teamwork, and most importantly, in the exceptional talent we have here in India. The team is truly building cutting-edge solutions for our global market, and we’re thrilled to give them a vibrant space to connect, create, and collaborate,” Rajeev Rajan, CTO at Atlassian, said.

The facility is purpose-built to support Atlassian’s Team Anywhere policy, a distributed-first approach that allows employees to work from home, office or elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Avani Solanki Prabhakar, chief people officer at Atlassian, mentioned, “Our Team Anywhere approach allows us to attract and retain top talent, regardless of location. We have Atlassians in almost every Indian state, tapping into the amazing skillsets across the country, as well as metro cities.”

This expansion is part of Atlassian’s global strategy to scale operations while remaining committed to empowering teams worldwide, reinforcing India’s role as a cornerstone of the company’s growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
