GitHub recently entered a new era of multimodal models for Copilot by introducing Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro, and OpenAI’s o1-preview and o1-mini. These empower developers and enterprises to select models tailored to specific coding requirements across tools like VS Code and GitHub.com.
More recently, GitHub previewed Spark, a natural language tool to create AI-integrated applications, supporting its vision of reaching 1 billion developers. Developers shared their experience with Spark creating their own games, poems, travel scripts etc. Here are a few use cases that stood out:
Get Help With Your Workflow In TypeScript
A user, who previously used GitHub Copilot only to “generate simple functions”, used the latest tool to get help with his TDD workflow in TypeScript and Spark didn’t disappoint.
I normally use GitHub Copilot only for generating simple functions, but I was quite surprised this morning to discover how it helped my TDD workflow in TypeScript.

Clear That Writer’s Block
Another person used Copilot by writing a blog post in VS Code and then had Spark turn the blogpost into a travel blog in order to get past his writer’s block. He then proceeded to write his blogs and said that the results “went off the rails”.

Buy Gifts for Your Loved Ones
The same person used it to generate gift ideas for his eight-year-old son and the AI listed out some great ideas for the same. He shared this interaction on X, and when asked if it also generated referral links in the comments, he said that was not the case. However, Spark seemed to deliver on the gift ideas.

Create Your Travel Log App
A Spark user tried out the GitHub app without feeding it code but instead tried interacting with the tool. They built a travel app on the platform and then shared the prompt with the users who wanted to do the same.

Make Website Apps
A Japan-based website enthusiast spoke about how he always wanted to make a website (app) for social clubs, and the new Spark tool on the platform looked like it could be useful.
Thanks to natural language, computing users are excited to build their own apps without having to use codes. Released earlier last week GitHub Spark is all the rage among its users, it however raises the questions if coders and developers are on the verge of replacement.
やば!社会人サークルのまとめサイト(アプリ)をいつか作ってみたいなーって思ってたけど、これ、使えそうだな!そういうのは既にいくつかあるけど、惜しいなーって思う部分があるんよね!

Build Your Weekend Apps
A Spark user spent their weekend using the AI tool to create apps like ‘Virtual Watercooler’, ‘Random Acts of Kindness’, ‘Storybook Adventures’ and ‘Mood Tracker’ via simple natural language prompts and shared the end product on X.
Spent the weekend playing with GitHub Spark, and it’s pretty awesome! It’s incredibly useful for quick prototyping. I built all these apps in just a few prompts! pic.twitter.com/sWZaI073wW

No More Manual Coding
AI tool GitHub Spark allows developers to dedicate more time to actual coding, reducing the need for extensive manual coding. This approach is particularly beneficial for newer coders and helps them streamline tasks and focus on developing their skills.
It focuses on significantly reshaping work processes and potentially supports flatter organisational structures, making workflows more efficient and collaborative across different levels of experience.
github spark is the future of coding
just let the user generate what they want, no one will care about the underlying code

Building Micro Apps
Spark allows coders to make micro apps of their choice by just describing it in plain language, no code needed. “GitHub Spark is going to change how we create micro-apps from now on…Anyone can do it if you have an idea. This was my favourite announcement from GitHub Universe,” a user reported.
