OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2022, and while you might think that after being on the market for nearly two years, its initial popularity would settle down, the number of users keeps increasing exponentially.
On Thursday, OpenAI shared that ChatGPT has 200 million weekly active users. Compared to the 100 million weekly ChatGPT active users OpenAI reported having in November 2023, the number of active weekly users doubled in about a year.

The continued increase in users can partly be attributed to OpenAI's continued investment in developing upgrades, such as new large language models (LLMs), highly requested features, and more offerings for free ChatGPT users, which make using the chatbot more compelling.
For example, during OpenAI's Spring Update event, the company unveiled cutting-edge features for its chatbot, such as GPT-4o's updated Voice Mode. Most significantly, the company made many features typically reserved for ChatGPT Plus users available to all users, such as uploading images and documents, accessing the GPT store, and advanced data analysis.

OpenAI also boasts impressive growth in the enterprise sector, with API usage doubling since GPT-4o mini was released in July, and 92% of Fortune 500 companies using OpenAI's products, according to the company.
Other AI industry leaders are seeing similar interest and growth in their products. On Thursday, Meta also shared that its Llama models are approaching 350 million downloads, which is ten times more than last year.
