18,000 Developers at Infosys Write 7 Mn Lines of Code Using GitHub Copilot

“Around 18,000 developers at Infosys have written 7 million lines of code using GitHub Copilot,” said Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India & South Asia, at the Building AI Companions for India event in Bengaluru on November 6, 2024. He added that Copilot has boosted productivity, streamlined workflows, and transformed how Infosys engages with its customers.

“We’re seeing that sellers using Copilot and AI have 10% higher revenue per seller and are closing deals 20% faster,” Chandok added, noting an increase in win rates by 20%.

Earlier this year, GitHub partnered with Infosys to launch the first GitHub Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. This initiative leverages AI and advanced software solutions to drive global economic growth.

By integrating GitHub Copilot across Infosys’ developer teams and extending its capabilities to their clients, the collaboration promises to enhance the speed and efficiency of software production worldwide.

At Github Universe 2024, the company announced that India now boasts over 17 million developers actively building on its platform, reflecting a remarkable 28% increase in 2024.

According to the latest GitHub Octoverse report, India is emerging as a crucial player in the global technology sector, with substantial contributions to generative AI and open-source projects.

Besides Infosys, other customers of GitHub Copilot in India include Axis Bank, Cognizant, HCLtech, and LTI Mindtree.

Axis Bank was the first in the country to adopt Copilot for Microsoft 365 at an enterprise scale, with 300 users, and has achieved over 30% productivity gains in daily work.

Earlier this year, Cognizant partnered with Microsoft to acquire 25,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses for its associates, along with 500 Sales Copilot and 500 Services Copilot licenses. This investment aims to boost productivity, streamline workflows, and elevate customer experiences.

Additionally, Cognizant has deployed Microsoft 365 Copilot to one million users across its Global 2000 client base, spanning 11 industries. Through its Synapse skilling program, 35,000 Cognizant developers have already been trained on GitHub Copilot and the company plans to train an additional 40,000 developers in the near future.

Indian IT giant HCLTech developed a Copilot for Microsoft 365 plugin for Microsoft Teams to help software developers and managers streamline bug resolution. Meanwhile, LTIMindtree, an IT and consulting services company, created a Copilot for Microsoft 365 plugin for Teams to optimise staff management.
