In a major boost to India’s electronics manufacturing push, Taiwanese contract electronics giant Foxconn has committed to invest ₹15,000 crore in Tamil Nadu, with plans to generate 14,000 high-value engineering jobs, according to Tamil Nadu industries minister TRB Rajaa.
The announcement follows a meeting between Foxconn’s India representative, Robert Wu, and Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, M K Stalin. The state government said the meeting reaffirmed Foxconn’s deep trust in Tamil Nadu’s industrial ecosystem.
Rajaa described the job commitment as the “largest ever engineering jobs commitment for Tamil Nadu,” and said that Foxconn’s investment will centre on value-added manufacturing, research & development integration, and AI-led advanced technology operations.
To streamline operations, the state’s investment promotion agency, Guidance Tamil Nadu, will host the country’s first dedicated “Foxconn Desk,” serving as a one-stop facilitation mechanism to expedite project approvals and cross-departmental coordination.
Foxconn has already made strides in expanding its footprint in India. In August 2025, it started production of the iPhone 17 at its Devanahalli facility near Bengaluru, its second-largest plant outside China.
Officials affirm that Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure readiness, industrial policy reforms, and talent pool were key drivers in winning the commitment. Wu praised the state’s governance model and declared that Tamil Nadu is well-positioned for Foxconn’s next growth phase in India.
Stalin pledged full state support, citing this as a step in transforming Tamil Nadu into a strategic hub for global supply chains, innovation, and high-tech engineering.
This investment reinforces Foxconn’s broader strategy to deepen its presence across Indian states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana, as the company shifts from China-centric operations toward India as a core manufacturing base.
